Melissa has been described as "an exquisite jazz voice with the ability to communicate with twenty-first century audiences with all the ease of popular music". Her songs have been called "standards in the making", and she has written over a hundred and fifty songs, a remarkable achievement for the artist who started writing fairly late in her career.
Come and relax with Melissa at the Cantina Bentivoglio, Bologna, Italy, in a special concert with guitarist Davide Brillante and bass player Mirko Scarcia, on Sunday 23rd December.
Melissa was a special guest at the Teatrino del Vecchio Mercato, Castel Bolognese, Ravenna (Italy) with the Luciano Valli Group on Saturday 31st March 2012. The gig also featured Marco Bovi on guitar and Alessandro Olivieri on bass. Olivieri's BSP Trio recently released "Silenzi Pieni", a CD which includes the trio's take on Melissa's composition, Romance Addio.
Melissa Stott and the Sleeping B Quartet with the Massa-Carrara Symphonic Orchestra played live at Rome's famous Teatro Parioli. The Tuscany-based orchestra, conducted by Giacomo Loprieno, played Max Chirico's arrangements for orchestra and jazz quartet in a special tribute to Frank Sinatra. The quartet featured Chirico on piano, Mirko Scarcia on acoustic bass and Dario Mazzucco on drums.
Melissa has so far released two CDs of original songs with a division of legendary British label Leo Records. For more information, see Discography.
Melissa Stott and her group present quirky jazz songs and some great playing. The subject matter goes way beyond the traditional jazz repertoire; lyrics about love and delusion mingle with Melissa's thoughts on Doctor Who, smoking grandmothers, computer buffs and chocolate cake.
London February-March 2009: Melissa wrote a specially commissioned piece for the multimedial exhibition A Cup of Tea Solves Everything, curated by Hamja Ahsan. Visitors heard the song while watching a specially created video/slideshow and saw the original sheet music, as well as admiring conceptual art and sculpture by some of London's most exciting artists. Other events included film screenings and live performance. The exhibition also travelled to the renowned Forfey Festival in Ireland in August 2009.
Melissa and Italian vocalist Enrico Covili have created a new multimedial show, Da Broadway a Hollywood, centred around famous duets from the world of musical theatre and cinema. The show, with choreography by Melissa Stott and Monica Tolomelli is currently touring. For pictures, see the photo gallery.
